Guys, I FINALLY did it! For the last couple of years I’ve been thinking about creating a blog, and it was finally time to just dive in! My name is Meghan, but most of you know me from Instagram, @theamericanfarmhouse or from my Etsy shop, The American Farmhouse. So here it is, my first blog post. This is a whole new world for me, and I can’t wait to learn everything about it, and share it all with you!
If you don’t know me, then let me get into the super exciting details of who I am! My name is Meghan, I’m a small shop owner on Etsy (if you haven’t checked out my sign shop, go to www.theamericanfarmhouse.etsy.com – and use BLOG20 for 20% off your order!. I’m a wife and a mom of three kiddos that keep me completely busy from sun up to sun down…and then some because my son never, EVER sleeps. (That’ll be a post for another day.) I used to be a special education teacher which I totally loved, but then came my third child , and we decided that it would be a better option for me to stay home with her while the other two were in school. Here’s where my Etsy shop begins.. I opened my Etsy shop in 2011 years ago and barely ever posted things, usually just refinishing furniture. That is where my love for DIYing came to begin. My Etsy shop transformed into a wood sign making business that really has grown into something I love to do, and I’m able to stay at home and be with my kids while owning my own small business. (Listen folks, if you can dream it up, you can do it…let me repeat that for you so it really sinks in….if you can dream it up, you can do it!!!!)
I started my Instagram page @theamericanfarmhouse a couple years ago and it has become a wonderful outlet for me to showcase my DIY’s, my home decor, our home renovations and so much more. As much as I love Instagram, showing a DIY project from top to bottom in one post is just impossible. Which leads to the birth of The American Farmhouse blog! Our farmhouse is set in New England and was built in 1847. When my husband’s grandfather passed away, he handed the farmhouse and land down to my husband and We and have been slowly making it exactly how we want it overtime. The best thing about doing this DIY style is….BUDGET FRIENDLY. With three young kids we don’t have a ton of money to throw around on home renovations. So, I do them myself (with a little help from my Saint of a father-in-law, who helps me with everything I need while rolling his eyes at me and my ideas, hehe!)
If you’re brain is anything like mine, you’ll love how I do six projects at a time around here. (I’m usually posting them all on my Instagram stories, so be sure to follow me over there!) I’m so excited to share with you my DIY projects with you. Step by step. My husband, Jeff, really isn’t into the home projects as much as I am, so most of the time they are done solely by me. If I can do this stuff, ANYONE can! So be sure to follow along with my blog, find some cool tips and tricks, get the details on easy projects you can do all by yourself, and maybe have a laugh or two along the way. I want to create a space here that anyone can come and find information and laughs from, not just DIY projects, but so much more. I’m a mom to three very different children, one of whom has some special needs. So there will be blog posts about the things I’ve learned in the last ten years of being a mom. I’ll tell you about my favorite products, my favorite recipes, and everything else under the sun! My main goal is to connect with you all in hopes of making your lives easier, and more fun! Like I tell my little sisters all the time, learn from the mistakes I’ve already made so that you don’t have to! I hope you all subscribe to my blog and I hope you will join me on this journey! Always feel free to comment below or send me a message on things you’d like to see on the blog as well! Can’t wait to see what the future will bring!
