It’s almost that time of the year again! The snow is melting (very slowly, but it’s melting…) and the temperatures are rising. SPRING is almost HERE! The one thing that brought me back to New England after moving to the South for so long was the seasons. I truly missed the changing in weather each season- the snow melting and tulips coming up in Spring, the leaves changing and falling for Autumn, the endless plowing, shoveling, snowmobiling, and wearing 15 layers of Winter! It made the year so much more exciting.
The most exciting part of spring is the feel of a fresh start! The windows and doors are open, clean air is making its way through the house, the dust bunnies are flying…ahhh…Heaven. Which leads me to giving you my best tips and tricks for spring cleaning and getting it done in ONE day featuring Viva® Multi-Surface Cloth™, Viva® Signature Cloth™, and Clorox® Clean-Up® + Bleach Spray! The warm air really gets us fueled up to dust and clean out our house and I LOVE IT!
We love to keep our house clean every day, especially during that March Flu season that’s upon us now. It’s everywhere- like the plague, the children are carrying these little germs everywhere. With three children under ten, and one in preschool where germs fester faster than a hot knife through butter, I have to stay on top of it every day.
Tip #1: Get All Materials Needed: Stock up on all of your spring cleaning materials before you start and save now on Viva® Paper Towels and Clorox® Clean-Up at coupons.com! Once I start, I really don’t want to stop. If I’m in the mood to get going, I want to make sure I have everything I’m going to need. My go-to’s…Clorox® Clean-Up® (this is a life saver AND germ killer—99.9% of germs to be exact—and my absolute favorite cleaning product there is!) We clean the counters, sinks, doorknobs, toilets, you name it with this product. (Here’s a tip within a tip: make sure you’re not wearing anything special while cleaning!) We gather our glass cleaner, our Viva Multi-Surface Cloths, Viva Signature Cloths, mop, wood floor cleaner and we’re off to the races! If you have everything you need to clean, nothing will stop you from getting preoccupied (other than your kiddos, right?!)
My go-to germ killer! My favorite cleaning cloths!
These are super thick and work everywhere! So much better than paper towels!
Tip #2: Get Organized!: This is the perfect time to go through the cabinets, drawers, dressers, and closets and rid yourself of anything you don’t need! Society is obsessing over organization and decluttering right now thanks to Marie Kondo and Tidying Up, so stores are filled with different options. Whether it be canisters, baskets, plastic containers, buckets, you name it—they will make your life easier and your spring cleaning faster! Going through spaces to trash (or donate!) what you don’t need will give you a head start on making sure your spring cleaning is complete in a day!

Tip #3: Do One Room At A Time: I have found that the best way to go about spring cleaning is to go one room at a time and make a list beforehand. We start at one end of our house, then finish at the other. The first room we clean is the bathroom. Before going in, we have a list of what needs to be done in there: shower doors, dusting cabinets, organizing and cleaning out drawers, toilet, mopping, and shower. We also rinse our faucets overnight with vinegar. The bathroom is always the most daunting because of the glass shower doors, under the cabinets, the toilet, and every other miserable thing we have to clean daily. The Viva Multi Surface cloth is my new go-to and is thicker than regular paper towels, cleans better than regular paper towels, and is very durable, so I use those to clean the countertops and toilets. After the bathroom is done, I feel that the rest of the house is easier.

Tip #4: Make It a Family Affair: A good tip I always use is to give my kids jobs as well if they are home. Spring Cleaning is done much faster and easier without the little monsters messing up right behind your cleaning, but sometimes a babysitter isn’t an option. I know my kids can use the vacuum, so they always do things like that or taking the sheets of their beds, putting their toys away, etc. If you keep them distracted with cleaning they think they are helping out and will leave you to do your thing as well.
Tip #5: Start From the Top Down: A mistake I’ve made time and time again is to vacuum the floors then realize I need to dust the fans and tops of cabinets, dressers, and everything above the floors. Make sure to use a cleaning agent on top of the fans that deters dust from collecting there faster. We always use liquid fabric softener mixed with water to keep the dust away longer! Make sure before you vacuum and mop to get those blinds and baseboards! These are two areas that people tend to forget to clean during their usual daily/weekly cleaning up, and it’s something that can be very noticeable to guests.
Tip #6: Get that Washing Machine Working!: Gather any pillows, rugs, and blankets that you’ve been cuddling with all winter and toss them in the machine! We do sheets off all of the beds, everything. While the washer is doing it’s work, you can focus on something else, like cleaning the outside of the windows. Don’t forget those! They’ve suffered all winter and farming season and have layers of dust and dirt on them!

Tip #7: Finish The Day With the Kitchen:
I always, always clean my kitchen last. It’s the home base at our house. Everything happens in the kitchen and with so many different surfaces I need a paper towel that works on all of them. Viva Multi-Surface Cloths come in handy for all those different surfaces that live in the kitchen. When the kitchen is clean, it means the WHOLE house is clean! Maybe this is my crazy way of thinking, but it gets me through the rest of the house. The mops can be put away, the brooms can be put away, the trash taken out. Your job is complete. You’ve finished your spring cleaning in ONE day! Now take your family out for some dinner and ice cream so you don’t mess up that sparkly clean new home of yours!
