First off, let me just say that I am by no means a travel professional. Not even a little bit. But what I do have experience in is traveling with three kids under 10. We’ve had our share of traveling ups and downs with them…flying for the first time and experience the look of sheer excitement (and occasional fear with turbulence), stopping every 25 minutes for someone to pee on road trips, car sickness, you name it, it’s probably happened to us.

Which leads me to the most recent trip we took this summer, to Cape Cod. Since we live in Massachusetts (the complete other side of the state), it was only about a 2.5 hour drive for us. In the truck….if you ask me why we took the truck instead of the three row SUV we that own, I really couldnt tell you. Ask my stubborn husband. Anywho, the kids were all cramped next to each other in the backseat, screwing with each other the entire time. Ya know, the usual for any car ride we go on.
This time during our trip we used the site We Need A Vacation to book the house we stayed in. It was SOOOO much better than a hotel, for probably around the same rate. (Don’t quote me on that, I didn’t look to compare, but the prices depending on the house you rented were quite reasonable!). I hadn’t been to the Cape in about 12 years or so and my kids had never been so we decided to stay in West Yarmouth. Online it seemed to have some really great kid friendly restaurants, activities, and the beach was right there.

If you’re looking for a cute house to stay at while you vacation on the cape, here is where we stayed! The pictures don’t do it justice, it was so adorable! There were three bedrooms, plus an entire finished basement floor, two bathrooms, (plus my favorite, an OUTDOOR shower!), a fire pit on the deck, a hammock, I could go on forever. It was the perfect amount of space where we didn’t feel cramped like we would at a resort or hotel, and it was within 5 miles of everything we did! (Also, if you book this house for next year and mention this blog post you’ll receive 10% off your total!)
Having three children that are always go go go, we planned ahead for a few different activities. We knew while we were at the Cape we’d be doing a beach day (Seagull Beach was 2 miles from the house so we rode bikes there!), we wanted to do batting cages and mini golf, have some seafood and hit a water park. We were only there from Friday to Sunday but we were completely entertained the entire time!

Like I said, Seagull Beach was right down the road from the house we stayed in, it was very beautiful and had a snack bar, bathrooms, showers and life guards. You couldn’t beat it! After the day there we headed back to the house to relax and have birthday cake and cook s’mores on the fire pit!
The kid friendly restaurants we enjoyed were:
Captain Parker’s Pub: (we sat outside here for lunch, the bar inside was a little loud but outside was perfect for the kids and they even sang Happy Birthday to my little boy!)
Skippers: We had a really nice dinner here, and the kids were well behaved. It was more adults than children, but they were welcome there and they had a children’s’ menu!
…and for dessert you HAVE to go to the Cape Cod Creamery! Their homemade ice cream was delicious, but be aware that there WILL be a line when you go here! It was the best ice cream ever!
As far as activities go, within five miles of the house, we were completely entertained. We spent a day at the Cape Cod Inflatable Park (half of the park is filled with huge inflatables, and the other half is a water park!) We thought we’d spend a few hours there and head back to the house and we ended up staying the entire day! It was fantastic! (Make sure to check Groupon out for this-they usually are on there).

Less than a mile from there was Pirate’s Cove Miniature Golf Course! The entire family had a blast there! It’s one of the best mini golf courses we’ve gone to!

When it was time to pack up we were all very sad. We had an amazing trip down to the Cape and we hope to head back soon! Hopefully this helps you if you’re planning your family trip to Cape Cod! Remember to check out the house we stayed at and mention you heard about it from this blog post and they’ll give you 10% off for next year!
Til next time,
Meg
